With the help of a map and an information package you will cycle around the IJssel Lake, Holland's largest inland water. You get acquinted with the towns and villages which were once situated at the former inland sea known as Zuiderzee.
Your holiday starts in Weesp, a small town at the river Vecht, by train only 20 minutes from Amsterdam. Along the river Vecht you cycle to Muiden and from there along the former coast of the Zuiderzee to the smalled walled town of Naarden. You will arrive at your hotel near Laren, an artistic village.
Crossing polderland, forestries and moorland you reach the lively town of Harderwijk. Your hotel is situated in the centre at the marketsquare.
On route to the next hotel in Zwartsluis, you may visit the small fortified town of Elburg.
In Giethoorn, also known as the 'Venice of the North', it is worthwhile to make a canal cruise by 'punter'. Right in the heart of National Park De Weerribben, a unique marshland, you will sleep in the next hotel.
You arrive in the province of Friesland. Along the Tjeukemeer and the town of Lemmer you cross a wooded area called Gaasterland. You'll find your hotel in the small village of Rijs.
The next day a ferry will take you across the IJssel Lake to the beautiful port town of Enkhuizen. From here on you undertake the last stretch of cycling ending up in Hoorn, where you will dine in the old harbour overviewing the traditional sailing ships.
